Our Multicultural Feast Day 2013

On Saturday June 15, our 'Bringing Us Together' project and 'Community Builders' program organised a combined event called 'Multicultural Feast Day' at Dee why Public School. In attendance was The Honourable Brad Hazzard, Bronwyn Bishop and Tony Abbott's wife Margaret Abbott. The event was very successful and more than 300 people were present.

Highlights from our Activities During 2012
LUNCHEON WITH THE MAYOR

The whole group was invited to a luncheon by Michael Regan, Warringah's Mayor. The event, held in the Council Chamber, was a great occasion for the participants to see democracy in action. We took that opportunity to discuss with the mayor the well-researched benefits of our mural project and therefore the importance of a favourable decision for our grant application. If anything may be concluded from the subsequent approval, we were apparently able to trigger his enthusiasm for our vision. This art grant is for three years and the resulting mural will be displayed in the newly established park in Dee Why. The participants will depict their journey to Australia. Everyone is welcome to join in the creative process. |

THE MUSEUMThe visit to The Australian Museum was very educational. The guided tour allowed the participants to observe fauna and minerals at close range. In particular, the section reserved for 'Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders' was very popular and everyone tried their hand at the didgeridoo. After a very compelling lecture by our executive officer where the hard life endured by early settlers was vividly recounted, participants were keen to discover the very buildings where this part of early Australian history had taken place. |
THE ROCKSPrior to our visit to the Rocks, our Executive Officer, John Gillham, gave a lecture on the First Settlers in Australia. It was a very informative talk, presented with passion, and had the audience spellbound. The hard life endured by early settlers was vividly recounted and participants were keen to discover the very buildings where this part of early Australian history had taken place. |
THE NSW ART GALLERYOur recent visit to the NSW Art Gallery was educational and very enjoyable event. We were shown important works depicting the original Australian way of life and the vast expanse the country. |
